CREATING ENGAGING USER EXPERIENCES: MEET ALEC, OUR NEW FRONT-END DEVELOPER

Welcome aboard, Alec! To introduce Alec to our Blastic blog readers, we asked him some serious and fun questions about his new role as a front-end developer. Curious to read more about Alec’s first few weeks? Let’s dive in!

HI ALEC, WHAT HAS SURPRISED YOU THE MOST SINCE YOU JOINED BLASTIC?

The projects I’ve been working on and my colleagues. They are all very lovely people. Everyone is always willing to help you when there is a problem.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE BLASTIC’S WORK CULTURE?

Blastic has a very positive, friendly atmosphere. We are still mostly working from home but I really enjoy the online meetings with colleagues. I’m glad that I chose Blastic as my first employer.

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO BECOME A FRONT-END DEVELOPER?

It all began as an experiment. I started programming in high school and immediately created websites for some friends. Step by step my skills evolved. I learned that a website is much more than just text and images... I discovered how to put 3D objects on a website and how to design animations. I love the fact that I can immerse myself in these things now.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED ABOUT IN YOUR NEW ROLE?

I look forward to working with new clients on new projects. And to attend the meetings that go with it.

CAN YOU TELL US MORE ABOUT WHAT A FRONT-END DEVELOPER EXACTLY DOES?

Simply put, a front-end developer ensures that every website has a good appearance. Our job is to take care of the layout, usability, etc. We optimize the user experience and take care of debugging. Front-end developers deal with the parts of a website or application that users see and interact with.

To conclude, we would like to ask you a couple of fun would you rather questions. We present you with 5 dilemmas, and you can answer with what best applies to you.

Would you rather...  always sing during online meetings or always be on mute?

Always be on mute and keep working on projects.

Present to clients wearing only your underwear or your pajamas?

Wearing pajamas because Barney from “How I met your mother” taught me that costume pajama’s do exist.

Have unlimited vacation days or four-hour working days?

Four-hour working days, I don’t really like to do nothing, so yeah... I prefer being busy.

Receive one hundred emails or one hundred phone calls per day?

A hundred phone calls a day because it’s nice to hear people and you can walk around while you’re on the phone.

Always arrive at the office on time and still be tired, or too late and well rested?

Arrive at the office on time and drink lots of coffee, does that count too?

Thank you so much for taking the time to sit down with us, Alec!
